What is Bowen Therapy?

It is an alternative/complimentary therapy recognised by the Complimentary & Natural Healthcare Council which is approved by the Department of Health and Social Care

IT IS “BODY WORK”

Practitioners work on the body (fully clothed in light, loose clothing please) using cross fibre movements to initiate the body’s response and changes. We move across fascia, muscle, tendons and ligaments using light pressure and giving regular short breaks in order to allow response.

Sessions/treatments take 30 – 50 minutes and I ask that you do not have additional therapies for the the week before and after your session to allow the treatment to have effect and to avoid loading your body and brain with conflicting messages.

IT IS A HOLISTIC PRACTICE

It therefore addresses the body as a whole rather than time being spent on just the bit which hurts. Perhaps think about it as I do: all the bones, ligaments and muscles join up through contact with each other and through fascial covering (which is why, for example, a move on the outer aspect of your knee often makes your tummy rumble).

Let’s say it is your back which hurts. All the many and often massive muscles of the back link to muscles of the pelvis and lower legs as well as to abdomen muscle, shoulder and neck muscles. One of those is causing the problem but it may not be those back muscles!

Why book an appointment?

Bowen Therapy is reported to provide pain relief and improved outcomes/well being in a host of muscular skeletal issues and chronic ill health. It is not a substitute for medical care but can support that care or offer treatment for issues which you believe need additional support.

Bowen is for OneandAll – any age, any issue can respond positively and quickly. I do not expect to see acute conditions more than 3 times, severe or chronic may take longer, many clients return regularly for “top ups” as their movement, posture and well being benefits from improvement. I am interested in assisting you to be as active as you wish/can achieve and pain free.

MSTR® McLoughlin Scar Release Technique

Many of us have scars, surgical or traumatic and of varying ages. Many of us think these scars are of no importance however, this technique was developed by Alastair McLoughlin, a Bowen Practitioner of many years as he responded to tissues “held” by scarring and having a continuing impact on movement. At its simplest, release the scar (gentle, direct scar work) and the tissues respond to release other parts once held by the scar. An example, a number of those who had babies by C section lean forward or bring knees up to sneeze. Release that scar and freedom of movement follows.
